I do not understand why some of people only see one side of coin ... Like a few of you think PSU culture is favorable for democratic way of government and its favorable for the growth of country and its people or some of you think private firms are the entities responsible for the growth and development of the nation.
I believe, we can not think of real development of country and its people without public and private partnership .Too much of PSU culture hinders actual growth of the economy since lack of competition makes them unreasoning, irresponsible and un adoptive, till 2000, most of the big businesses where handled by Government owned companies and we know the situation, now compare the services you get from SBI now and the response given by then before 2000.Same in the case of Airlines industries. More opportunities has been grown after liberalization and privatization of many industries like Airlines, Telecom, Banking etc are the examples which have changed the out look of Indian .
But at the same time too much of privatization and easy licensing to conduct business spoils the actual motive and that is all round growth of the country and its people.
Too much of competition leads to price war and price war leads to cost cutting and it drains to quality cut in products and services , The best example of this is telecom and retails industries where Lakhs of users are being cheated by their lucrative schemes .
So, I believe that both public and private can not go lone, we requires private participations and public (PSU) presence in each and every industries. The latest development is the move of the government to set up Arms/Military industries with private partnership which will bring millions of employment.
But still the actual question of “Economic Liberalization threat Sovereignty” is intact.
Sovereignty is the absolute Power which an Independent Government have , no one is above it and it can not be shared , there is nothing called limited Sovereignty , if some where its limited ,its not Sovereignty but a limited authority given by a Sovereign body.
Ok about the question, yes it’s possible in the case of small and weak countries, actually in 18th Century British emperor acquired the Sovereign status by economic control over Indian states.
But its not possible now in India, see Liberalization and globalization are methods which are developed and used by Countries world wide and accept some limitations like in case of CTBT or Kyoto protocol , Carbon rating etc but none of them affects actual soul of the Sovereignty , its only accepted in order to create harmony and peace etc.. Its makes a web like structure if we draft and depict it on paper, so it makes whole world interlinked and interdependent .
